Academic Foundations
Salisbury Academy students benefit from a rich, sequential curriculum that fosters deep understanding, critical thinking, and joy in learning. Beginning in JK and continuing through 8th grade, our Core Knowledge Sequence provides a solid base in literacy, math, science, history, and the arts—carefully building knowledge year after year.
In the Upper School, rigorous honors-level coursework and dual-enrollment opportunities with Catawba College empower students to dive deeper and personalize their academic experience. Across all grades, students are challenged to think independently, communicate clearly, and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways.
Our learning environment is dynamic and hands-on: math manipulatives, science labs, literature circles, writing workshops, and real-world problem-solving are just a few examples of how our students learn by doing. Learning Beyond the Classroom
At Salisbury Academy, the world is our classroom. We believe that learning comes alive when students engage with real places, people, and problems—and that every experience is a chance to grow.
Frequent field trips connect classroom lessons to the wider world: from nature preserves and art museums to historic sites and government centers. Overnight trips, guest speakers, service projects, and Exhibition Nights further enrich the student experience and foster authentic learning.
Whether exploring the Catawba Ecological Preserve in Lower School, traveling to Washington D.C. in Middle School, or interning with a local nonprofit in Upper School, our students gain new perspectives, build confidence, and discover their place in the world.
Character & Community
Character education is woven into every part of the Jaguar Journey. From weekly chapel to daily interactions in the classroom, students are guided to practice kindness, responsibility, integrity, and empathy.
Our Core Virtues program, student-led service initiatives, and cross-grade buddy programs help students build meaningful relationships and grow into compassionate leaders. Whether it’s a 1st grader reading with an 8th grade buddy, or a 3K student helping collect canned goods for a local food drive, our students learn that they have the power to make a difference.
A central part of this character development is our commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. As a U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School and an EnviroSmart School of Excellence, Salisbury Academy actively fosters a love and respect for the natural world.
